Tangier (1946 film)

Tangier is a 1946 blackandwhite thriller film set in the city of Tangier, Morocco that was directed by George Waggner and filmed on Universals backlot. It was one of the last Universal Pictures films before it merged into UniversalInternational in July 1946.

The film was originally entitled Flame of Stamboul and was to star Montez, John Hall and Turhan Bey. Alice Miller wrote the script which was set in Turkey. However the story was felt to be politically problematic for neutral Turkey and filming was postponed. The project was reactivated after the war and set in Tangiers, leading to the change in title. The villains were agents from Francos Spain. Then this was changed to they were from a non specific nationality.
